Introducing the Map Art Generator: Convert Any Image to Minecraft Map Art

BlocksItems.com launches a new Map Art Generator tool that converts any image into a Minecraft map art layout with schematic exports for WorldEdit, Litematica, and structure blocks.

We are excited to announce the Map Art Generator, the newest tool on BlocksItems.com. Upload any image and our tool converts it into a Minecraft map art layout by matching every pixel to the closest block using perceptual OKLAB color matching.

What Is Minecraft Map Art?

Map art is a technique where players place blocks in a specific grid pattern so that when viewed on a Minecraft map item, the blocks form a recognizable image. Each block has a map color assigned by the game, and our tool uses these exact colors to produce accurate results.

How It Works

  1. Upload an image — drag and drop, paste from clipboard, or browse your files.
  2. Choose your map size — configure the number of maps (1×1 up to 4×4) and zoom level (0–4). A single map at zoom 0 is 128×128 blocks.
  3. Select block sources — use vanilla Minecraft blocks only, or include blocks from 500+ supported mods and modpacks.
  4. Enable dithering — optionally apply Floyd-Steinberg dithering for smoother gradients in photographic images.
  5. Generate — our server matches each pixel to the nearest block using OKLAB perceptual color distance and returns a live preview, material list, and shareable link.

Export as Schematics

Once your map art is generated you can download it in three popular schematic formats:

  • WorldEdit .schem — Sponge Schematic v2, compatible with WorldEdit and FAWE.
  • Litematica .litematic — for the Litematica mod, popular in the Fabric modding community.
  • Vanilla structure .nbt — compatible with structure blocks, the Create mod, and data packs.

Each export produces a flat, 1-block-tall structure that you can paste into your world at any location.

Material List and Block Count

The generator provides a detailed material list showing every block type used, its icon, color swatch, full block ID, total count, and stack count. This makes it easy to gather the resources you need before building in survival mode.
